Biography

Dr. Orlando serves as the associate dean for graduate medical education and scholarly professor at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University. Prior to his arrival, Dr. Orlando served as:

  • Chief Medical Education Officer and ACGME Designated Institutional Official (DIO) at St. Luke's University Health Network, Bethlehem, PA, for 12 years,
  • Assistant Vice President, Academic Affairs at Einstein Healthcare Network, Philadelphia, PA, for 3 years, and
  • Director, Medical Education and Student Affairs at Lehigh Health Network, Allentown, PA, for 7 years.

Dr. Orlando earned his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in corporate learning leadership from the Penn Chief Learning Officer program in 2009. He earned his Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Adult and Organizational Development from Temple University's School of Education in 2000, and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees from Moravian College in International Management and American Political Thought in 1996. He studied abroad for a spring semester in Dijon, France.

Dr. Orlando is appointed adjunct associate professor at Penn GSE, where he serves as faculty, academic director, and dissertation chair in the Learning, Teaching, and Literacies Division. He has served as director, coaching curriculum, for Penn GSE's Medical Education, M.S.Ed., program since 2014. Dr. Orlando has also served as faculty in Moravian College's M.B.A. program, where he has been teaching leadership courses since 2009. He is a professional certified coach (PCC) and has been certified as a coach by the International Coaching Federation since 2016. He also holds an advanced certification in team coaching (ACTC) through the International Coaching Federation.

Dr. Orlando serves/served on numerous national medical education committees and boards:

  • Accreditation Council for Graduation Medical Education (ACGME), Institutional Review Committee (2019–26),
  • Accreditation Council for Graduation Medical Education (ACGME), Healthcare Leadership and Management Fellowship Milestones group (2025),
  • Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers (AiAMC), President-Elect (2019–Present) and their National Initiative on Social Determinants of Health, Co-Chair (2023–25), and
  • Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistant Schools (ARCPA), Treasurer and Commissioner (2011–2016).

He is a 2026 recipient of the ACGME's Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Award, 2025 recipient of the AiAMC's Ethel Weinberg MD Medical Education Leadership Award, and the 2024 recipient of Moravian University's Benigna Education Leadership Award. He served in the United States Army Reserves for 10 years and volunteered as a youth sports coach for 10 years. He loves seeing his three children grow in their personal and professional lives, and they aspire toward careers in healthcare.
