Biography
Marissa Kimmel, Ph.D., LPC, is a part-time lecturer and seminar leader in the School and Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE). An alumna of the program, Dr. Kimmel earned her M.S.Ed. in School and Mental Health Counseling from Penn GSE in 2016 after receiving her B.S. in Middle Years Education from Saint Joseph’s University in 2014.
Dr. Kimmel has served as a school counselor at Garnet Valley High School since 2016 and brings over ten years of counseling experience in public schools. In addition to her work as a school counselor, Dr. Kimmel is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has worked as a part-time therapist for the past five years, supporting clients in a clinical mental health setting.
Dr. Kimmel earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, with a concentration in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Her dissertation focused on the relationship between school refusal, anxiety, and executive functioning. At Penn GSE, she teaches the practicum course for first-year counseling students and serves as a seminar leader within the executive program, helping prepare future school and mental health counselors for professional practice.
