Julie Berger, senior associate director of Penn GSE’s Office of School and Community Engagement, has been selected as part of the inaugural cohort of Penn Commonwealth-Engaged Scholars (PCES). In this role, she will join colleagues from across the University of Pennsylvania in applying her expertise to address pressing issues facing communities throughout Pennsylvania. Berger’s work at GSE has long centered on building strong school and community partnerships, making her uniquely positioned to contribute to PCES’s mission of connecting Penn more deeply with the Commonwealth.
The PCES program, aligned with Penn’s strategic framework, In Principle and Practice, brings together faculty and staff from across disciplines to engage with the state’s diverse regions. Through community visits, educational briefings, and collaborative dialogue, the scholars will explore Pennsylvania’s unique geographic, economic, and cultural landscape while developing solutions to shared challenges. The initiative reflects Penn’s commitment to transformational, not transactional, relationships across the state.
