  • Andrea M. Kane

    Professor of Practice, Education Leadership

Policy, Organizations, Leadership, and Systems Division

Andrea Kane recently arrived at Penn GSE and will be teaching in the Teaching, Learning, and Leadership master’s degree program and the Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership. Kane previously served as Superintendent of Schools for Queen Anne’s County Public Schools in Maryland. She has dedicated her career to education, serving as a para-professional and classroom teacher before moving into leadership roles at the school and district levels.

As the first Black superintendent for Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, Kane led initiatives to address systemic and overt racism, including analyzing data on achievement gaps between Black and white students and bringing in firms to focus on equity work, including increasing student access to academic opportunities.

The New York Times recently wrote about Kane’s leadership challenges in the face of protest following the death of George Floyd. Read about it here.
