Recently, some Penn GSE faculty made the rounds on prominent education podcasts to share their expertise and unpack some of the most pressing issues in schooling today, across K–12 and higher education.
On The Teacher’s Forum, Adjunct Assistant Professor Charlotte Jacobs, director of Penn GSE’s Independent School Teaching Residency, dives into the narratives driving discussions about gender and schooling with host David Harris and fellow guest Roderick L. Carey. Jacobs challenges zero sum thinking around resources for boys’ and girls’ educational needs and calls for schools centered on care, belonging, and human flourishing.
Professor Emeritus Robert Zemsky sat down with co-hosts Dave Kozak and Joe Kerns on the College Knowledge podcast to discuss bold transformations in higher education. From his innovative “College in 3” initiative to rethinking faculty roles and boosting student retention, Zemsky offers a forward-looking vision for how colleges can adapt to meet the needs of today’s learners.
And finally, Jonathan Zimmerman, the Judy and Howard Berkowitz Professor in Education, joined Goutham Yegappan on his Re-Educated Podcast to explore “Fear, Freedom, and the Purpose of Schooling.” In a wide ranging conversation, Zimmerman traces the historical roots of modern education, examines tensions around censorship, and reflects on how schools can cultivate independent thinkers prepared for civic life.
